Our luxury villa rentals selection in the most famous resort in Europe.
St Tropez is, quite simply, the most famous resort in Europe – and it was attracting the artistic and famous long before Brigitte Bardot’s time. The pointillist Paul Signac led them in during the late 19th century and, by the late Nineteen Forties and Fifties, the town was a summertime extension of the Parisian Left Bank: Juliette Greco, Jean Paul Sartre and Pablo Picasso were all regulars. Then Bardot appeared in 'And God Created Woman', helping to transform the attractive fishing village into a worldwide reputation for pleasurable good times. St Tropez has never looked back.
The great, the rich and the A-listers continue to come in by the yachtful, meeting for villa soirées, in Le Club 55 on Pampelonne beach or at the many exclusive nightclubs. If they weren’t there, the charming little village streets around the Citadelle and the port would not have quite so many yacht charter firms, exclusive restaurants, bars and designer boutiques, whilst the vibrant atmosphere is completed by the locals going in numbers to the market with baskets to do their daily shopping.
The surroundings help of course. On the waters around the bay, the world renown sailing regatta, les Voiles is an exciting sight to behold. The wooded unspoilt, rocky St Tropez peninsula is spectacular, the views across the Mediterranean to the Maures mountains are outstanding. The pretty local vineyards offer a promise of fine Rose wines. The small beaches in St Tropez are welcoming, whilst the 5km white sands of Pampelonne beach is jammed packed with beach clubs and fashionable restaurants.
